Technology Protection Plans
Students will be expected to bring/have a device/laptop at school every day. The device/laptop must be charged and ready to use for classroom learning. Snohomish School District will provide laptops for all students. When students receive a district device/laptop at the start of the school year, the student will also receive information about the Technology Protection Plan.
Due to the high replacement cost of a device/laptop, the option of purchasing a Technology Protection Plan can help offset costs in the event a device/laptop is damaged, lost or stolen. See plan for specific coverage.
The standard enrollment fee for the technology protection plan is $30. (Students eligible for the free/reduced meal program will have their enrollment fee waived. Students must fill out a free/reduced meal application and be approved.)
Plan enrollment fees must be paid at the time of opting in to activate the protection plan.
Coverage and benefits
The technology protection plan covers the laptop loaned to the student against one incident of accidental damage, theft, or loss during the current school year.
How it works
- The plan can be used once during the school year for an eligible incident, regardless of the cost.
- If a student has more than one eligible incident during the year, we’ll apply the plan to the most expensive one to maximize the benefit.
For example, if a student has both a $15 keyboard replacement and a $75 screen repair, the protection plan will cover the $75 screen repair. This ensures that the plan provides the most help when it’s needed most. Any other incidents will be considered separately and may require additional payment based on repair or replacement costs.
The plan does not cover:
- Loss of power cord.
- Intentional misuse, abuse, or neglect by any household member.
- Physical screen damage caused by abuse.
All damage assessments will be at the sole discretion of the Snohomish School District.

Additional information
- Protection plan enrollment deadline: The online opt-in period ends October 1. After October 1, families who wish to purchase the protection plan must bring the student’s laptop to the school so it can be physically inspected before enrollment can be approved. We strongly encourage families who want coverage to enroll online before the October 1 deadline, as enrolling afterward requires additional steps and an in-person device inspection.
- The full cost of a laptop replacement is $300.
- Replacement cost for a missing power cord is $25. Because we cannot repair the power adapter, students must always cover the cost of damage or loss of the power supply/cord.
- Laptops not returned (including those reported as ‘LOST’ or ‘THEFT’) will be remotely disabled and locked from being used.
- Theft: If a laptop is reported stolen, the Snohomish School District requires a copy of a filed police report to be submitted to the school. Fraudulent reporting of theft will be turned over to the police for investigation. A student making a false report will also be subject to school disciplinary action.
- Loss or theft (without a police report), or failure to return the laptop to Snohomish School District: Students who withdraw or leave the Snohomish School District, or those who do not return the issued devices at the end of the school year, will be responsible for the replacement costs of $300 for the laptop and $25 for the missing power cord. Unreturned laptops may be treated as lost or stolen, and the Snohomish School District reserves the right to report the unreturned devices to the police as such.
- Damage to keyboards resulting in missing keys or removed keyboard frames is typically considered non-accidental and is therefore not covered under the protection plan in most cases.
